Living at Digby?

While staying in The Village at the University of Leicester, you will also be part of your own hall community and become part of its unique 100-year history. Many of the accommodations in The Village date from Edwardian times (1901-1910) and were built by Leicester’s wealthy industrialists, creating these large, elegant houses which were subsequently bought or donated to the University. As the University grew, purpose-built accommodation was constructed on the grounds of these houses and incorporated into the diverse character of The Village, including in Digby Hall.

As our smallest hall and slightly further afield from the Village Hub, Digby Hall residents consistently form their own individual community distinct from any other hall in The Village. The majority of its 250 residents are located in Meadow Court, purpose-built accommodation surrounding a central green space in the grounds of the Edwardian house which gives its name to the hall, Digby House. The house itself functions as both accommodation and the central social space for Digby Hall.

Next door to Digby House are Inglewood House and Highgrove House, with Southmeade House (not Southmeade Court, make sure you don't get the two mixed up!) just across the road and surrounded by the Botanical Gardens. Southmeade House shares its history with Beaumont house, as a second home for its original resident family. Being further away from the centre of The Village doesn't mean you don't have access to everything that we have to offer at Leicester! Our Residential Advisers make regular visits to the hall every day, hold coffee and games nights in Digby House and our Let's Do Leicester sports team frequently come down to offer Zumba and other sports activities. Even better, Digby Hall is the closest hall to the Asda supermarket, Oadby town centre (including the local Wetherspoons) and the nearest public bus stop that goes past the University and all the way into Leicester city centre. Digby Hall certainly has its convenience!

If you're looking for somewhere to unwind that's a little more secluded, check out our secret garden behind Highgrove house! Think of the Botanical Gardens but on a smaller scale, with a maze of paths and ponds to wander around aimlessly. You can reach this secret garden by going behind Highgrove House, Inglewood House, Digby House AND just to the side of Purple block in Meadow Court. You can't miss it!

By living in Digby Hall, you will join a community of thousands who have also resided in your hall and will share the same experiences as you.
