The Village

About Your Hall | Stamford

Living at Stamford?

While staying in The Village at the University of Leicester, you will also be part of your own hall community and become part of its unique 100-year history. Many of the accommodations in The Village date from Edwardian times (1901-1910) and were built by Leicester’s wealthy industrialists, creating these large, elegant houses which were subsequently bought or donated to the University. As the University grew, purpose-built accommodation was constructed on the grounds of these houses and incorporated into the diverse character of The Village, including in Stamford Hall.

At the centre of The Village, Stamford Hall has all the comforts you'd need for your first year at Leicester. Stamford consists of various Edwardian houses with the majority of the rooms located in Lasdun. The huge accommodation block was designed by Denys Lasdun (who designed the Charles Wilson Building on campus) in the 1960s and pays tribute to the brutalist architecture popular in Denys' work. In addition to Lasdun, our two lodges (Kent and Rosenfels) were also constructed like Lasdun but offer a more close knit experience. Their names were lended from their respective Edwardian houses, Kent and Rosenfels House.

Being the centre of our student village, Stamford Hall includes the beating heart of our community: The Village Hub! This is where all our residents meet to eat, drink, watch or study while staying with us. Our fully licensed Village Pub features student prices for our drinks, pool tables and live sports. We also have a Cinema room, books to loan and study rooms on the 1st floor.
