The key stuff you need to know

Applying to Leicester through Clearing this summer is easy and lots of people do it! You can still find your perfect course this way, so here's a simple guide to help you navigate Clearing with confidence:

Key dates for Clearing

  • Accommodation guarantee deadline: Apply by 1 September 2026 for a guaranteed place in university-managed accommodation.
  • Term start date: Monday, 21 September 2026

What is Clearing?

Clearing is a UCAS service that matches students without university places to courses that still have vacancies. It's available to:

  • Students who didn't receive any offers.
  • Students who declined all their offers.
  • Students who didn't meet the conditions of their offers.
  • Students who have changed their minds about their course or university.
  • Students who haven't applied yet.

How to apply through Clearing

  1. Check course availability: Visit the University of Leicester Clearing Course Finder to see which courses are available.
  2. Contact the University: Call the Clearing hotline at 0116 373 6000 or send a message via WhatsApp. The team is available Monday to Friday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm.
  3. Prepare your information: Have your UCAS ID, A-level (or equivalent) results, and any other relevant qualifications ready when you contact the university.
  4. Receive a verbal offer: If the university is interested in your application, they will make a verbal offer during the call.
  5. Accept the offer: If you receive a verbal offer, log in to your UCAS Hub and add Leicester as your Clearing choice. You will then receive a formal offer by email.

FAQs

UCAS Tariff points translate your qualifications and grades into numbers. Many qualifications (but not all) have a certain UCAS Tariff value, which will vary depending on the qualification and the grade you achieved.

The value of the number can sometimes be referred to in the entry requirements, alongside any subject-specific grades or other qualifications which do not receive UCAS Tariff points. Make sure you check the course entry requirements clearly to see if you can use Tariff points.

Yes, and we have an international student Clearing hotline on a different number +44 (0)116 223 1888, so you can get straight through to someone with the knowledge to help you.

You'll be able to apply for accommodation within 24 hours of adding Leicester as your Clearing choice on UCAS.
