Always park your bike securely and safely

Biking around Leicester city and campus is a very eco-friendly, sustainable way to travel. But we want to make sure that you aren't a target of theft! If you cycle to the University, make our secure cycle stores your first choice for parking your bike.

Bike thieves will take any opportunity to target vulnerable bikes, particularly those left in open or easily accessible locations. Using one of our secure cycle stores provides an additional layer of protection for your bike.

Where can I find them? 📍

We have secure cycle storage facilities across campus, including two of our main facilities:

• Underneath Centenary Square
• At Freemen's, opposite the Multi-Storey Car Park pedestrian exit

Both stores are access-controlled with your University ID card and covered by CCTV. The cycle racks are provided inside so you can secure your bike to a fixed point.

Due to the security and safety of our cycle stores, consider using one of our secure stores instead of an external bike rack.

Help us keep the stores secure 🔒

When using a cycle store:

✅ Always lock your bike to a fixed cycle rack using a suitable lock.

✅ Don't allow anyone to follow you into the store when you use your University ID card to enter.

✅ Don't let someone you don't know into the store. They should use their own University ID card.

✅ Make sure the door closes securely behind you when you enter or leave.

Get your bike security marked ✔️

We regularly work with the Police to provide free bike security marking events on campus. When you see one of these events advertised, please take the opportunity to bring your bike along and have it security-marked.

If you wish to take out additional cover for your bike, you can do this via the Howden Student App with providers called Protect Your Bubble - for bikes, it's CycleGuard. There are also other options, such as MusicGuard, with student discounts available in the app.
