Leicester was named the UK's Greatest Sporting City in 2016, and you can see why! Whichever sport tickles your fancy, you should be able to see it in Leicester.

If you've just moved to the city and wondering where you can watch your favourite sport then check out our handy list below for more information.

Football

Leicester City are a well-established Premier League football club that have come on leaps and bounds in the last decade. In 2016, they defied all odds to lift the Premier League title in what was deemed a football miracle, with the club narrowly avoiding relegation the season before. Now, Leicester consistently qualify for European competition with some of the best clubs from around the continent visiting the King Power Stadium. A great place to watch some football and an electric atmosphere!

Where: King Power Stadium, Filbert Way, Leicester LE2 7FL

Rugby

It's not only top-flight football that Leicester promises, as their rugby union outfit, Leicester Tigers play in the Gallagher Premiership. They are the most successful club in the country with 10 Premiership titles, and they currently sit at the top of the table, with a healthy 8-point advantage. The stadium is right across the road from the university, so it's well worth trying a game out whilst you're here!

Cricket

Cricket is a summer sport, so if you find yourself knocking about during the warmer months then cricket is a great choice for a day out. Fancy dress, beers and sunshine make it a popular sport in the UK. Again, Leicester offers elite sport on your doorstep, as Leicestershire County Cricket Club is one of 18 first-class county clubs in England and Wales. Keep an eye out for the fixtures here

Horse racing

Not many sports have a dress code, but if you like to dress up to the nines then why not head to Leicester Racecourse? Here, you'll be able to choose a horse for each race and cheer it over the line (whether you put a bet on it or not), all whilst indulging in tasty food and drinks. The races are especially a fantastic day out for a special occasion!

Basketball

Can't stand the cold and sometimes wet weather? Then an indoor sport may well be right up your street. The UK's oldest professional basketball team is the Leicester Riders and just like the rugby team, they are top of the league. If you want to see some top quality, entertaining sports then head to the Morningside Arena which is just by Abbey Park. You can grab a ticket for just £15!
