The University of Leicester will be closed from Wednesday 24th December to Wednesday 31st December. Thursday 1st January 2026 is a bank holiday, and a further discretionary closure day has been agreed for Friday 2nd January 2026. This means the University will officially reopen on Monday 5th January 2026.
During this time, most staffed services will be unavailable, but on-site campus security and the Residence Life teams will remain on duty. The University Students' Union reception and other services will be closed.
Our accommodation receptions will remain open at Oadby Student Village and Freemen's Common, but there will be a lower number of staff than usual working on site.
The Reslife events programme will continue to run, but the number of events will be reduced.
The Library will be closed on Christmas Day (25th December 2025), Boxing Day (26 December 2025) and New Year's Day (1 January 2026). Other than those dates, the Library will remain open 24 hours throughout the Christmas period from 24th December 2025 and 4th January 2026.
Also, during this time, the social media team will be taking a break, and we will not be responding to messages or DMs until all staff return on Monday 5th January 2026.
