Getting support with your studies

Posted 2 years ago

Exam season is a stressful time for everybody...

... But no matter what, you must remember to look after yourself and not be afraid to seek help if you need it.

Whether you're finding it challenging to manage your workload or just need some academic advice, there are plenty of support services at Leciester to help you.

Your personal tutor

Your personal tutor can provide help and advice about your studies by discussing your study skills, helping you to understand assignment feedback, turning it into actionable goals, and helping you find additional resources such as books and articles. To make the most of your sessions, see our guide to using your tutor effectively.

Students' Union Advice Service

On hand to help with a range of academic issues, the Advice Service can advise or signpost you to further guidance. You can book an appointment with them via the website or pop in during their opening hours.

Library

There is a range of services available via the library. You can book a session with a Librarian for help with finding information, literature searching, using subject databases, referencing and using bibliographic software.  There's also a Mathematics Help Centre that offers support in understanding and working through maths and statistics related content. Simply visit David Wilson Libraryemail, or call on 0116 252 2043.

Your peer mentor

If you are in your first year, you will have been allocated a peer mentor (unless you have opted out) who can listen to your concerns and provide informal support.

Academic Skills Centre

With maths advisors, academic skills consultants and librarians, there are plenty of resources and academic appointments to help you feel confident with your academic work. You can also find a wide range of short self-study guides to help you manage your studies.

English Language Teaching Unit

The English Language Teaching Unit offers free English language support courses and classes if you are a current international student and want to improve your English.
