The University of Leicester welcomes students of all ages and from all walks of life. Our mature students bring invaluable experience to our student body. Don't be afraid to join a society if you find one that you're interested in, they are a great way to meet like-minded people and make new friends.
Definitions
· Ageism: Stereotyping, prejudice, or discrimination against individuals based on their age, often directed towards older adults.
· Non-traditional Student: A student who does not fit the typical profile of a recent secondary school leaver. This can include mature students, part-time students, or those balancing education with work and family responsibilities.
· Digital Literacy: The ability to use information and communication technologies to find, evaluate, create, and communicate information, requiring both cognitive and technical skills.
Mature Students Society
The Mature Students Society represents the mature student body and provides events and facilities tailored for you. Scan the QR code to learn more.
Support for Mature Students
· The Student Welfare Service provides help with practical matters such as childcare, finances, and accommodation. They also hold regular legal advice clinics.
· The Career Development Service can help you channel your new educational experiences into your refreshed CV. They also offer workshops on interview skills and other aspects of developing your employability.
· The AccessAbility Centre offers support and practical help for students with dyslexia and other specific learning difficulties, or mobility difficulties.
Blackboard and Newsletter
As a mature student, you will be added to the ‘Mature Student Space’ on Blackboard. This module has useful information and events specifically for mature students. We also send out a mature students’ newsletter every fortnight!
Students with Dependents

We like to make sure that students with children or dependents are supported at university. The Parents’ & Carers Network meets regularly and provides support for students and staff who have caring responsibilities. Any enquiries can be directed to carers_parents@le.ac.uk.
