Join a society at university

By LouiseRA 08 Jan 2024

Within the University we have over 250 different societies with around 60 being sports societies!

Why try a society?

Trying a society will help enhance your knowledge of a previous interest, or try something new like a sport, hobby or volunteering group. By trying different societies, you will meet new people from different year groups. It gives you the best opportunity to make new friends not on your course or in your accommodation. If you've just moved to Leicester, trying some societies is the best way to start getting involved in your new university community. How to find out more about a society?

View the society page on the Student Union (SU) website or look at any of their social media pages. The socials Instagram or TikTok are used by most societies.

How to show interest/join a society?

Contact them through any information found on the SU website. This could be through committee members emails, the society email or even a DM on Instagram. After that you will be directed to the SU page to buy a membership, prices vary depending what is involved in the club, some societies are free to join.

Personal experience

I have been involved in a society since my first year at the University and I would definitely say that it was one of the best decisions. I have met some of the best people in them, some of which are friends for life, as a society we have made some of the best memories whether that being at trainings, matches or socials on a Wednesday night.
